Facility workers take breaks from the sweltering environment in an air-conditioned meeting room.            <\/span>\r\n        \r\n    \r\n<\/div><!-- .cover--lead-in -->\r\n\r\n\n\n\n<div class=\"pinned-block has-spacing--m\">\n\t\n\n<div class=\"pinned-block__column--right\">\n    \n\n<p class=\"post__paragraph has-spacing--m\"><strong>Als Angela Merkel im M\u00e4rz 2011 <\/strong>nach der Nuklearkatastrophe von Fukushima den&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bundestag.de\/webarchiv\/textarchiv\/2011\/33753604_kw11_regierungserklaerung_japan-204868\">Atomausstieg<\/a> verk\u00fcndete, begann f\u00fcr Deutschland nicht nur das Ende der Atomenergie \u2013 es begann auch eine neue Phase der Auseinandersetzung mit dem, was zur\u00fcckbleibt: dem Atomm\u00fcll. Die Frage, wo ein dauerhaft sicheres Endlager f\u00fcr hochradioaktive Abf\u00e4lle entstehen soll, wurde damit dr\u00e4ngender denn je. Doch w\u00e4hrend der politische Konsens f\u00fcr den Ausstieg schnell gefunden war, zieht sich die Suche nach einem Endlager bis heute hin \u2013 und wird sich wohl noch bis weit nach 2050, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tagesschau.de\/inland\/innenpolitik\/atommuell-endlager-104.html\">m\u00f6glicherweise bis&nbsp;2074<\/a>, erstrecken.<br><br>Ein mahnendes Symbol f\u00fcr die Vers\u00e4umnisse der Vergangenheit ist dabei die Schachtanlage&nbsp;Asse II&nbsp;in Niedersachsen: ein altes Salzbergwerk, in dem zwischen 1967 und 1978 rund 126.000 F\u00e4sser mit schwach- und mittelradioaktivem M\u00fcll eingelagert wurden \u2013 ohne ausreichende Dokumentation, ohne modernes Sicherheitskonzept. Jahrzehnte sp\u00e4ter tritt Wasser ein, die R\u00fcckholung wird zur technologischen wie politischen Mammutaufgabe. Gorleben wurde als Endlagerstandort ausgeschlossen, \u00fcber 90 m\u00f6gliche Regionen wurden zun\u00e4chst identifiziert. Doch die Realit\u00e4t ist ern\u00fcchternd: Die urspr\u00fcnglich gesetzte Frist \u2013 eine Standortentscheidung bis 2031 \u2013 ist l\u00e4ngst nicht mehr haltbar. Neue Prognosen gehen von einer Entscheidung&nbsp;fr\u00fchestens 2046&nbsp;aus, manche Studien sprechen gar von einer Fertigstellung erst&nbsp;in den 2070er Jahren.<br><br>Die Suche nach einem sicheren Endlager wird damit zur Jahrhundertaufgabe. The mine was established in the early 1900s for salt extraction and was scheduled for closure in the 1950s due to water intrusion. Januar 2025, Zufahrtsstra\u00dfe zum Gel\u00e4nde der BGE und Zugang in die Asse II<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n    <div class=\"headline-block has-spacing--xs\">\n\n        <h2 class=\"post__headline\">Wasser im Berg \u2013 der Kern des Problems<\/h2>\n\n        \n    <\/div>\n\n    \n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"post__paragraph has-spacing--m\">Schon seit den Einlagerungen zwischen 1967 und 1978 ist klar: Salzst\u00f6cke wie die Asse sind nicht vollst\u00e4ndig \u00abtrocken\u00bb. Ab 1988 wurden erste Einstromstellen f\u00fcr salzhaltiges Wasser dokumentiert \u2013 fr\u00fcher als \u00abbedeutungslos\u00bb abgetan, entwickelten sich diese Wasserzufl\u00fcsse zu zentralen Risikofaktoren. Rund 570 Stellen sind feucht. Sollte das Bergwerk \u00ababsaufen\u00bb, kann dort nicht mehr sicher gearbeitet werden. His concern surrounding the storage facility is reflected in his involvement with both the committee for radiation protection measures and the association aufpASSEn e.V.. These organizations attempt to educate the community about the Asse project developments and potential health impacts. In this chamber, it was deemed unnecessary to line the barrels with lead or concrete due to the intermediate levels of radiation emitted by the waste.
