Sie sind Professoren f\u00fcr Fotografie an der Hochschule f\u00fcr bildende K\u00fcnste (HFBK) in Hamburg. Gemeinsam hatten sie zahlreiche Einzelausstellungen, darunter im Hasselblad Center (2017), im Zentrum f\u00fcr zeitgen\u00f6ssische Kunst im Ujazdowski Schloss, Warschau (2015), in der Jumex Foundation, Mexico City (2014) und im Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam (2006). Sie nahmen auch an internationalen Gruppenausstellungen teil wie der British Art Show 8 (2015 \u2013 2017), \u201eConflict, Time, Photography\u201c in der Tate Modern, London und im Museum Folkwang in Essen (2015), der Shanghai Biennale (2014), im Museum of Modern Art, New York (2014), in der Tate Britain (2014) und auf der Gwanju Biennale (2012). Ihre Arbeiten befinden sich in wichtigen \u00f6ffentlichen und privaten Sammlungen, darunter Tate, MoMA, Yale, Stedelijk, Victoria and Albert Museum, Art Gallery Ontario, Cleveland Museum of Art und das Baltimore Museum of Art. Der Bereich der Kultur ist jetzt das Schlachtfeld und wir sind alle an der Front.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"post__paragraph is-style-typo--soehne has-spacing--default\">Wie k\u00f6nnen wir, als Bild-Erzeuger, Denker und Aktivisten, uns den neuen Einsatzregeln und dem neuen Handlungsdruck anpassen?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"post__paragraph is-style-typo--soehne has-spacing--default\">Die rechtspopulistische Bewegung hat die Sprache der Avantgarde \u00fcbernommen, eine Sprache, die immer an die Radikalit\u00e4t der Kunst geglaubt hat, um gesellschaftliche Strukturen tats\u00e4chlich zu ver\u00e4ndern. Sie hat sie \u00fcbernommen und f\u00fcr billige, regierungsfeindliche Spr\u00fcche benutzt um Stimmen zu bekommen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"post__paragraph is-style-typo--soehne has-spacing--default\">Es ist an der Zeit, die Sprache zur\u00fcck zu erobern, dabei aber niemals ihre Komplexit\u00e4t aufs Spiel zu setzen. So etwas wie eine populistische Linke kann es nicht geben. Das einzige, an dem wir festhalten m\u00fcssen, ist unser Verst\u00e4ndnis f\u00fcr die Komplexit\u00e4t jeder Situation und auch an unserem Sinn f\u00fcr Humor. Konfliktfotografie als Indikator f\u00fcr ein aufkommendes Verst\u00e4ndnis von digitalen Bildern als neuem Medium.<\/h2>\n\n        \n    <\/div>\n\n    \n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"post__paragraph is-style-typo--soehne has-spacing--m\"><strong>In seiner (erstmals 1955 im Eulenspiegel Verlag) ver\u00f6ffentlichten <em>Kriegsfibel<\/em>&nbsp;<\/strong>kombinierte der deutsche Dramatiker und Lyriker Bertolt Brecht Pressefotografien aus d\u00e4nischen und amerikanischen Tageszeitungen und Illustrierten mit kommentierenden Vierzeilern, die er Foto-Epigramme nannte. Die in den 1930er-Jahren im Exil in D\u00e4nemark begonnene Arbeit ist sowohl eine kritische Chronik der Ereignisse des Zweiten Weltkriegs als auch eine didaktische Infragestellung der vermeintlichen Wahrhaftigkeit und Eindeutigkeit der Fotografie.<br><br>Mit ihrem K\u00fcnstlerbuch&nbsp;<em>War Primer 2<\/em>&nbsp;(erschienen 2011 in limitierter Auflage von 100 Exemplaren bei MACK; Neuauflage 2018) eignen sich Adam Broomberg und Oliver Chanarin Brechts&nbsp;<em>Kriegsfibel<\/em>&nbsp;an und \u00fcbersetzen sie in die massenmedial gepr\u00e4gte Zeit des ,war on terror\u2018. Das Bildmaterial f\u00fcr ihre Intervention und Neuinterpretation finden sie im Internet und montieren es auf die 85 Tafeln der britischen Originalausgabe (<em>War Primer<\/em>, erschienen 1998 bei Libris). In Situationen, die dem klassischen Abbildungsrepertoire der ereignisbezogenen Reportagefotografie entsprechen w\u00fcrden, setzen sie jeweils 6 m des lichtempfindlichen Papiers f\u00fcr 20 Sekunden der Sonne aus. Die so entstandenen Fotogramme sind abstrakt und suchen die Repr\u00e4sentation und Narration zu unterlaufen.
