W\u00e4hrend der letzten 15 Jahre hat Wylie ein bedeutendes Werk geschaffen, das sich mit der Verg\u00e4nglichkeit zeitgen\u00f6ssischer Milit\u00e4rarchitektur befasst. Positive Kritiken erhielt er erstmals mit \u201e The Maze\u201c (Granta, 2004), einer Serie aus 80 Fotos aus dem Maze-Gef\u00e4ngnis, einem Ort, der ein Synonym ist f\u00fcr den Konflikt, der Nordirland von den 1970er Jahren bis in die sp\u00e4ten 1990er Jahre ersch\u00fctterte. \u201eThe Maze\u201c war auf der Shortlist f\u00fcr den Deutsche B\u00f6rse Fotopreis im Jahr 2010 als wichtigster europ\u00e4ischer Beitrag im Medium Fotografie. Zus\u00e4tzlich zur Fotografie arbeitet Wylie oft auch im Bereich Film. 2002 erhielt er einen BAFTA-Filmpreis f\u00fcr \u201eThe Train\u201c. Wylie lebt in seiner Geburtsstadt Belfast und ist Dozent f\u00fcr Fotografie an der Ulster University. Wylies Photographie wird oft als \u201carch\u00e4ologisch\u201d beschrieben und stammt vor allem von der politischen und sozialen Landschaft Nordirlands ab, wo er auch aufgewachsen ist. Sein Buch \u201cThe Maze\u201d, eine photographische Studie des ber\u00fcchtigten Gef\u00e4ngnisses in Nordirland, wurde 2004 unter internationalem Beifall ver\u00f6ffentlicht und zum Grundstein f\u00fcr Wylies laufende photographische Studie zu milit\u00e4rischer Architektur. Seine Photographien setzen sich mit dem spezifischen Wesen von modernen milit\u00e4rischen Strukturen auseinander und legen ihre visuellen Beziehungen zur Landschaft offen. Systematisch n\u00e4hert sich Wylie dem Geb\u00e4udekomplex von au\u00dfen nach innen, dokumentiert akribisch die begrenzenden Mauern, Z\u00e4une und Sicherheitsstreifen, die Innenr\u00e4ume der charakteristischen H-Blocks, die Korridore und Zellen.
