Er hat u.a. die B\u00fccher&nbsp;<em>In Our Own Image: The Coming Revolution&nbsp;in Photography<\/em>,<em>&nbsp;After Photography<\/em>&nbsp;und&nbsp;<em>Bending the Frame: Photojournalism, Documentary, and the Citizen&nbsp;<\/em>ver\u00f6ffentlicht. Er war Bildredakteur des&nbsp;<em>New York Times Magazine<\/em>, Gr\u00fcndungsdirektor von PixelPress und Professor f\u00fcr Fotografie und Bildgebende Verfahren an der New York University. Neben einer breit gef\u00e4cherten T\u00e4tigkeit als Dozent und Kurator lehrt Ritchin am ICP und in der Magnum Foundation zu Fotografie, sozialer Gerechtigkeit und Menschenrechten. In der konventionellen Beziehung zwischen Foto und Bildunterschrift f\u00fchren die W\u00f6rter oftmals eine Art Quantenkollaps herbei, in dessen Verlauf bildinh\u00e4rente Ambivalenzen auf eine bestimmte Bedeutung heruntergebrochen werden. Produktiver w\u00e4re eine Beziehung zwischen Foto und Text, die beiden Medien eine eigene Stimme zugesteht, welche die jeweils andere verst\u00e4rkt (und manchmal einen Gegensatz bildet). Die nicht lineare Erz\u00e4hlung in Hypertext und Hypermedien f\u00f6rdert eine oftmals spielerische Herangehensweise, welche die unterschiedlichen Bedeutungen von Text und Bild, je nach ihrer Position in der jeweiligen Sequenz, herausstellt. Fotografien k\u00f6nnen mittels&nbsp;<em>image-mapping<\/em>&nbsp;mit Verweisen versehen werden, sodass bestimmte Bildbereiche einen Erz\u00e4hlstrang einleiten, w\u00e4hrend andere Leser*innen in eine neue Richtung f\u00fchren. Noch grenz\u00fcberschreitender gedacht, l\u00e4sst sich der Code von Bildern (oder Texten) auch in anderen medialen Formen ausgeben, etwa als Musik. Wie kann Fotografie als proaktives, auf das Verhindern bzw. Minimieren von Katastrophen hinwirkendes Medium anstatt als reaktives, auftretende Katastrophen abwartendes Medium gedacht werden?
