What happens behind the closed doors of fraternities? The student Leon Enrique Montero investigated this question: During his first two semesters, he did intensive research on fraternities and sororities. He will talk about the results of his work in a lecture on January 17, 2023, at the Pavillon Cultural Center in Hanover.

Through his research, Leon Enrique Montero immersed himself for several months in a different world: it is considered traditional and hierarchical, full of heavy drinking habits and reactionary values. The student even went so far as to submit applications to known far-right fraternities. In an interview with Deutschlandfunk Nova, he said, “What I found quite interesting was the ten per cent of fraternities that are accused of right-wing extremism, which are also partly ostracized in fraternity circles.” However, these fraternities rejected Leon Enrique Montero – because of his skin colour.

The result of the research is a critique of this conservative parallel society.

Admission to this lecture is free of charge.
