Franziska Gilli was honoured in South Tyrol.
The graduate receives the Walther von der Vogelweide Award, endowed with €4,000.
Graduate Franziska Gilli wins this year’s “Walther von der Vogelweide Prize”. The jury commented that it honoured an up-and-coming artist who had “stood out above all for her socially critical photography”. Franziska Gilli’s work is committed to asking open questions and taking a close look. The €4,000 sponsorship prize is awarded by the foundation of the same name every three years, alternating with the principal and youth prizes. It was established in 1960 by the Kulturwerk für Südtirol in Munich to recognize artistic and scientific achievements in the South Tyrol region.
The photographer Franziska Gilli was born in Bolzano in 1987. She attended the International Center for Business Studies in Freiburg and studied photojournalism in Hanover. Her photographs have been published in the Neue Zürcher Zeitung, SPIEGEL, FAZ and ZEIT. Gilli’s work has already won silver at the German Photo Book Award in the “Documentary-Journalistic Photo Book Volume” category. It has been supported several times by the VG Bildkunst, among others. The Copenhagen Photo Festival, the f2 Festival in Dortmund and the Lumix Festival in Hanover also exhibited their pictures.
