The Triennial of Photography Hamburg has nominated documentary photographer Julius Schien as one of the five FUTURES Talents 2025. This recognises his work “Rechtes Land“. Julius Schien has been working on his long-term project for three years. “Rechtes Land” documents all the places where people have died as a result of right-wing violence since reunification.

Born in 1992, Julius Schien is studying Visual Journalism and Documentary Photography at Hanover University of Applied Sciences and Arts. His photographic work explores Germany’s political heritage and the persistence of right-wing extremism in the 21st century. He has received several awards, including Best Portfolio 2024 from the Friends of the House of Photography at the Deichtorhallen Hamburg. Schien is also part of the Masterclass on Documentary Photography 2024/25 at the PhMuseum in Bologna and exhibits internationally.

Each year, FUTURES members select a group of promising artists who gain access to experts, markets, and audiences through the network. This year’s talents explore pressing social issues in their projects – using photography, film, sound, AI, 3D scanning, and installations.
