Jana Margarete Schuler

Jana Margarete Schuler comes from the small Franconian town of Forchheim, where she grew up in a district called ‘Kellerwald’ – a forest where one beer cellar follows another, a place steeped in tradition and full of oddities. No wonder she is interested in people and places that don’t fit the norm. While studying photojournalism and documentary photography in Hannover, she began photographing reportages on social and cultural topics. Since then she has accompanied ice fishermen in Lapland, MEPs in Brussels, female wrestlers in northern Mexico, female brewers in Upper Franconia and winemakers in Spain. She is based in Bamberg and travels the world for her stories. Jana’s work has appeared in ZEIT, Spiegel, Stern and elsewhere.
