Sonja Palade is a photo historian and curator. She studied media studies, photography and curatorial studies in Cologne, Hannover and Frankfurt am Main and then worked at art and cultural institutions. As a freelance curator she has realised exhibitions and projects for galleries, festivals and museums. She has previously taught at Hannover University of Applied Sciences and Arts and at the Hochschule für Gestaltung Offenbach.
From 2023 to 2025 she was a fellow of the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Foundation’s programme for museum curators of photography, working at the Münchner Stadtmuseum, Museum Folkwang in Essen, Fotomuseum Winterthur and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. Since 2025 she has been a Research Fellow of the Ann and Jürgen Wilde Foundation at the Bavarian State Painting Collections in Munich, researching editorial practices in modern photography of the 1970s.
