‘If you bring interest and a bit of staying power, it’s one of the best jobs in the world.’

Graduate Jonas Wresch talks in an interview about what it takes to work as a photojournalist.

Jonas Wresch was born in Bad Dürkheim in 1988 and completed his bachelor’s degree at Hochschule Hannover in 2015. He then received the coveted Stern scholarship. Since then the photojournalist has travelled the world on assignment for magazines such as Stern and GEO. In 2022 he was on the jury of the Hansel-Mieth-Preis. He now lives in Hamburg.

In February 2024 Jonas Wresch gave an interview to NDR. In it he said that, as he sees it, photojournalism is still hugely valuable when it brings out the fine nuances of a subject and makes people visible in their joy and their suffering: ‘It doesn’t work through text, and it doesn’t matter what language the viewer speaks – it goes straight to the heart.’ For him, that is the power that has not been lost, even today.
