Miriam Zlobinski researches and teaches the theory and history of photography, focusing on photography in journalism, collecting and the visuality of democracy. Her completed doctorate at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin takes a critical look at the image politics and everyday visual culture of the illustrated magazine Stern. In 2018 she received the Research Grant of the Federal Chancellor Willy Brandt Foundation, and she publishes regularly in journals and other publications.
A trained journalist, she co-founded the online format ReVue – Magazin für Fotografie und Wahrnehmung in 2021 and oversees it as a member of the editorial board. Since 2022 she has also served on the board of the History and Archives section of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Photographie and on the jury for the ‘Writing & Thinking Photography’ awards.
Her work as a freelance curator with institutions, festivals and collectives centres on collaborative processes. In addition to her current teaching assignment ‘Curating and Exhibiting’ at Hannover University of Applied Sciences and Arts, she teaches at the Ostkreuzschule für Fotografie and at the Institute for Transmedia Design at the Berlin University of the Arts.
