Final projects

Waiting for war

For his bachelor’s project, photographer Patrick Slesiona travelled to Armenia. For years the democratic country has had to defend itself against its authoritarian neighbour Azerbaijan.

Traces

Irmela Mensah-Schramm: fighting Nazi slogans with a scraper and a heart

For decades one woman has been scraping messages of hate out of public spaces – she has removed more than 140,000 of them. The attacks go on.

Water

MS Norröna: by ferry across the North Atlantic to Iceland

From Denmark via the Faroe Islands to the far north: a passage through the rugged beauty of the sea.

A crew member stands in the interior of the MS Norröna, where several empty tables and chairs stand in front of large windows. The soft light of early evening creates a dreamy atmosphere.

Ideals

Pet play: welcome to the Wuffel zone

Wearing dog masks to their regulars’ night, on a lead to a party – why some people enjoy slipping into animal roles.

Collecting

The library of rescued East German books

How a pastor in Lower Saxony saved thousands of East German books from destruction – and why one of them gave space research a crucial lead.

Work

New Work: the philosopher who emptied the offices

New Work didn’t start with the pandemic but with the radical vision of a thinker in the 1980s. His ideas are more relevant today than ever.

A young man with light brown curls sits on a folding chair against a bright orange background. He wears a burgundy jumper over a light blue shirt. He isn’t wearing proper trousers, but colourful socks with a comic-strip pattern. His legs are crossed. Beside him stands a white three-legged coffee table with a grey plant pot and a pink mug. He looks intently at the laptop on his lap and wears wireless earbuds.
