Plan your portfolio consultation early:

All dates up to the application deadline on 15 March 2027 are now set. If you start now, you can get feedback on your portfolio over several weeks.

An outside view moves your work forward: At Portfolio Day 2026, students get feedback from industry professionals. In a portfolio consultation, you get it from professors on the degree programme.

A portfolio consultation is the easiest way to get in touch with us. You show photos or videos you are working on and get honest feedback from professors on the degree programme. The consultation is free and takes place in small groups: online via Zoom or in person at the Design Center of Hannover University of Applied Sciences and Arts. You don’t need a finished portfolio.

Our experience from the aptitude tests of recent years is clear: applicants who have attended at least one portfolio consultation have much better chances. This is not about insider tips. In the consultation you get a feel for what matters in the portfolio and in the test. You see work by other applicants and experience how we talk about images.

Many people leave it too late. Shortly before the deadline, consultations fill up quickly, and there is hardly any time left to change your portfolio. That’s why we have already published all dates up to 15 March 2027. There will be no additional dates.

You can book up to three consultations. If you start now, we will follow the development of your own photo reportage or short film over several weeks. Show us your idea in the autumn, an interim version in the winter and the almost finished work shortly before you submit.

Now is a good time to start on your portfolio. It contains two photo series, one of them a reportage, and a short film. None of it has to be perfect. We want to see curiosity, courage and a range of topics. Do you dare to try something? Are you willing to push your limits? We are less keen on travel photos and pictures of demonstrations. They almost always look the same.

You will find all dates, tips on how to prepare and the registration on our portfolio consultation page. How the application works is explained under Apply.
