Six perspectives on the same finding. From 2 to 9 October, the photographers’ network SHIFT is showing the open-air exhibition ‘Echokammer Deutschland – Fotografische Positionen zum Rechtsruck’ (‘Echo Chamber Germany – Photographic Positions on the Shift to the Right’) at Platz an der Basilika in Hannover. Admission is free. The exhibition features Felix Adler, Rosa Burczyk and Stella Weiß, Rafael Heygster, Paula Markert, Julius Schien and Thomas Victor.
The documentary works approach the subject from different angles: they deal with the ideological shaping of remembrance culture, with sites of right-wing violence and with the self-staging of right-wing extremists – but also with alternative visions and the civil-society engagement against them. Thomas Victor, Julius Schien, Rafael Heygster and Stella Weiß completed their bachelor’s degrees at Hochschule Hannover; Rosa Burczyk is currently working on hers.

The exhibition accompanies the conference ‘Die Ästhetik des Widerstands’ (‘The Aesthetics of Resistance’), held by the Catholic Academy of the Diocese of Hildesheim on 2 October in the conference centre next door. It asks how people working in culture can respond to far-right threats. Rafael Heygster is leading a workshop on far-right imagery, and Saskia Fischer of Leibniz University Hannover is giving the opening talk. The conference is open to anyone interested, and attendance is free.
