Portfolio Day 2026: meeting on equal terms. Students meet industry professionals and present their work.
On 24 September 2026, students at Hochschule Hannover had the chance to present their work to experienced picture editors, curators and photographers. For the third time, Portfolio Day was organised by the students themselves – this year by Jonathan Bar Am, Sammy Bermùdez and Max Schlag. The reviewers travelled from all over Germany, on a voluntary basis. ‘We don’t take it for granted that you give up so much of your time, some of you travelling a long way to come to us at the university. We’re truly grateful for that,’ said Sammy Bermùdez in the welcome speech.
In one-to-one sessions with four reviewers each, the students received feedback on their work. ‘Portfolio Day is an important reality check,’ said Professor Michael Trippel. The reviews let students test whether their work can hold its own in the media market. And those with energy to spare used the breaks to make valuable contacts.
The students had also taken care of refreshments: lunch was a large buffet of home-made chilli, salads and dips. By the end of the day, the organisers were not the only ones feeling grateful. ‘I think I speak for all the reviewers when I say thank you. The day was superbly organised, and today I saw pictures of the very highest standard,’ said Anja Kneller of the Freundeskreis Fotografie in her closing remarks.
Jonathan Bar Am, Sammy Bermùdez and Max Schlag are already hoping that Portfolio Day will go into a fourth round next year.
